Crystals

Crystal Energy

Crystals are a beautiful gift from nature, used in healing practices and personal/spiritual development.  In the simplest of terms, we use them for two main functions; healing which tends to encompass the merging of healing powers of a few crystals together; or self development of a particular aspect using an appropriate crystal’s energy.

Detailed below are just some of the crystals that you can use to help. Some crystals have singular abilities and others can be used for multi properties such as quartz. The list below is not exhaustive but certainly enough to get you started. I would suggest Healing Crystals – The A-Z Guide – by Michael Gienger for a more detailed understanding of each crystal and its healing properties or a very comprehensive guide the Crystal Bible by Judy Hall. I highly recommend both books, but you may feel drawn to one in particular.

How to Use Crystals

You can either use the crystal energy by holding the crystal during meditation or by wearing it as a piece of jewellery. In addition, you can also place crystals strategically around the home.

Chakra Healing

Chakras are wheels of light located all over our body. We have thousands of them but the seven major ones are located along our spine from its base to the crown of the head. Each chakra is represented by a colour of the rainbow – red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet.

  • Crown Chakra – Top of Head – Violet
  • Third Eye/Brow Chakra – Above & between eyebrows – Indigo
  • Throat Chakra – Base of throat – Blue
  • Heart Chakra – Centre of chest – Green
  • Solar Plexus Chakra – Just above navel – Yellow
  • Sacral Chakra – Just below navel – Orange
  • Root/Base Chakra – Base of spine – Red

Chakras are like the power stations of our body, bringing it to life, and keeping it healthy. Each chakra is associated with different parts of us and they need to spin totally in balance for us to feel good.  Chakra sets are readily available from any number of stores similar to the images below.

Cleansing & Charging

As a footnote I need to mention cleansing and charging. Crystals are energy sources and will pick up energy on their way into your life and home.  As a rule of thumb always cleanse any crystals under a quick source of running water.  I have used tap water for years.  Run them under the tap and pat them dry or better still leave them to dry in full sunlight or moonlight.  Just like mini batteries they are charged under full natural light, day or night will do.

How to cleanse and charge your crystals

This is a simple guide on how to cleanse and recharge your crystals. Think of them as little batteries that need a boost as do we all from time to time

You do not need to do them every month, but you will sense a drop in energy in your environment if you keep crystals nearby or a general flatness in yourself if you wear them. Crystals pick up on all types of energy, they are like sponges in your environment. If you are going through a rough patch wash and charge them frequently and place in the sun if you can’t wait for a full moon.

It’s important to understand that as they came from Mother Nature and they are recharged by her in the simplest of forms. Some practitioners use the rays of the sun, the rays of the moon, wash them in the sea or place them in a stream (in a net for easy removal! You don’t want to lose them).

I usually wait for a full moon, gather up all my crystals and carry out the following practice (probably every 3 months or more if I feel flat as mentioned)

  • Collect all your crystals in readiness early evening.
  • Use a clean bowl or glass fruit bowl something you can put all your crystals in and both hands.
  • Sprinkle a handful of rock salt (table salt will do fine) over the crystals in your bowl.
  • Turn on the tap and fill the bowl with cold water.
  • Run your hands all over the crystals, washing them and thanking them for their role in your life.
  • Once you feel that enough time has been spent cleansing them you can place them in the full moon’s rays. I place mine on a window sill on a sheet or two of kitchen paper in the light of the moon.
  • Leave them all night and return them to their usual place in the morning all charged and ready for action.

How to use a Pendulum

A pendulum is one of the most commonly used tools for divination, anyone can do it – it is simply a question of practice. In physical terms a pendulum is a weighted object hung from a single chain or cord (in the majority of cases it will be a strung crystal). You learn how to interpret the answers to yes, no or maybe and then you start asking questions.

Follow this exercise to connect with your pendulum

  • Sit with a straight back.
  • Exhale loudly through your mouth all your stresses and worries.
  • Breath in through your nose to the count of five.
  • Breath out through your mouth to the count of five.
  • Hold the end of the chain between your thumb and forefinger of your dominant hand (If the chain feels too long wrap it slightly around your forefinger).
  • Gently run your fingers from your non-dominant hand down the chain to imprint your energy and ensure the pendulum is perfectly still.
  • Gently remove your fingers and wait for the pendulum to stop moving.
  • Focus your energy on the pendulum.
  • Ask it out loud or silently in your mind to show you a yes response. It will swing back and forth (North to South) or side to side (West to East).  This is your yes response.
  • Repeat the question for your no answer. It will swing in the opposite direction.
  • Finally, ask it to show you a cannot answer now response.  This will typically swing in a circular motion or what I call all around the world compass swing.

Your pendulum will be unique to you – mine swings back and forth for yes, side to side for no, and in a circular motion for cannot answer now responses.

When you use it for the first time, I recommend you ask a few times to see a yes and no response until you are sure which is the correct interpretation for you.  Once you have mastered this you should move onto basic questions such as is my name “?”, is my eye colour “?” etc., you get the general idea as this will build your confidence in your ability to interpret the pendulum.

Please do not rely on your pendulum to make all your decisions in life, where would be the fun in that?

This is designed to develop your psychic ability and intuition, only you can be the master of your destiny – not a pendulum. As the pendulum relies on your energy to work effectively, I advise you not use it when you are emotionally distressed or in a negative state as you will get an inaccurate reading. It needs a calm state and an open mind.
